The mixtures were classified into tribal groups. Each tribe began with three members (i.e. three sets), while in future waves three additional members were received by the Infernites, Frosticons and Glorp Corp tribes, each of whom brought membership and set counts for six.

A unique pattern is crafted for each tribe and its leaders. This motive was often elemental in earlier waves (for example, the infernites use red and transparent red features to evoke a fire), although motive may be characteristic in later waves (for example, police theme of the MCPD tribe).
