The process of the rainbow is: When sunlight hits the rain, the light changes direction (refracted) by the water droplets in the air. There are differences in wavelengths and angular differences when sunlight is refracted causing the colors in the sun to spread and separate. Apparently, there is sunlight that bounces back or rather reflected. Now when the sun comes again through the water when it rains, the light is refracted again.

You also need to know that the rainbow can only be seen when it rains and there is sunlight.
